He is near the hurting
There is a lie that says God is closest when life is good and pulls back when it falls apart. Scripture says the reverse. He is near to the brokenhearted, not far from them. He does not wait for you to recover before He draws close. He moves toward the wound. If you are carrying something heavy, you do not have to be put together to reach Him, and you are not further from God because you are hurting. Today, bring Him the actual state you are in. The God who is near the brokenhearted is near to you, now.
Jehovah is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart, and saveth such as are of a contrite spirit.
Psalm 34:18 · ASVDavid says God is near to the broken-hearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Brokenness does not push God away, Scripture says it is exactly where He draws close.
He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.
Psalm 147:3 · ASVThe psalm pictures God as one who heals the broken in heart and binds up their wounds. The wording shows God attending to the hurt directly rather than rushing past it.
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Psalm 46:1 · ASVGod is called a refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. The phrase describes help already present within the trouble rather than summoned from far off.
Thou numberest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle; are they not in thy book?
Psalm 56:8 · ASVDavid says God keeps count of his tossings and stores his tears in a bottle. The images portray a God who notices and records every sorrow.
