The Spirit prays in you

Prayer can feel impossible in the moments it is needed most, when grief or confusion leaves a person without words. Paul says the Spirit meets exactly that weakness. When believers do not know how to pray, the Spirit Himself intercedes for them with groanings too deep for words, carrying the prayer they cannot form. This means the quality of your prayer does not rest on finding the perfect words. Even an inarticulate cry is taken up by the Spirit and presented to the Father. Praying in the Spirit is not a special technique but a leaning on the help already given when your own praying falters. When you do not know what to say, say that to God, and trust the Spirit to carry the rest.

Through the day
Morning

And in like manner the Spirit also helpeth our infirmity: for we know not how to pray as we ought; but the Spirit himself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

Romans 8:26 · ASV

Paul says the Spirit helps believers in their weakness, since they do not know what to pray as they ought. The Spirit Himself intercedes with groanings too deep for words.

Afternoon

and he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

Romans 8:27 · ASV

Paul adds that God, who searches hearts, knows the mind of the Spirit, who intercedes for the saints according to God's will. The Spirit's praying is assured of aligning with what God wants.

Evening

with all prayer and supplication praying at all seasons in the Spirit, and watching thereunto in all perseverance and supplication for all the saints,

Ephesians 6:18 · ASV

Paul calls believers to pray at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. Prayer is presented as something carried on in dependence on the Spirit.

Night

Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of Jehovah unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith Jehovah of hosts.

Zechariah 4:6 · ASV

The word to Zerubbabel declares it is not by might nor by power, but by God's Spirit. Accomplishment in God's work is credited to the Spirit rather than human force.
