Strength while you wait
Long waits wear you down, and at some point the question is whether you can keep waiting at all. Scripture answers with a promise of supply: those who wait on God trade their spent strength for His. Waiting is not where your faith runs out, it is where God renews it, often enough for only the next stretch and no further. Your soul can wait for Him alone, since your help and your shield is God Himself, even while the pressure stays. When the waiting drains you, stop trying to summon more endurance on your own. Ask God to be the strength of your waiting, and let Him carry you through the part you cannot manufacture.
Our soul hath waited for Jehovah: he is our help and our shield.
Psalm 33:20 · ASVThe psalmist names waiting as the posture and God as the help and shield it rests on. Waiting leans its whole weight on who God is.
And therefore will Jehovah wait, that he may be gracious unto you; and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for Jehovah is a God of justice; blessed are all they that wait for him.
Isaiah 30:18 · ASVIsaiah pictures God Himself waiting for the right moment to be gracious, and calls those who wait for Him well off. The verse presents a God who waits for the fitting moment to extend grace.
Guide me in thy truth, and teach me; for thou art the God of my salvation; for thee do I wait all the day.
Psalm 25:5 · ASVDavid waits all day long while asking God to guide and teach him. The waiting is filled with learning to follow, not emptied of purpose.
My soul waiteth in silence for God only: from him cometh my salvation.
Psalm 62:1 · ASVDavid settles his soul to wait for God alone, certain that salvation comes from Him. Settled waiting here is confidence, the calm of knowing where help will come from.
