Open hands
Faith asks for a posture, open hands instead of clenched fists. Clenched hands grip tight, but they also cannot receive anything new. When you hold your plans and timelines loosely, two things happen. You stop being wrecked every time life does not match your script, and you leave room for God to give you something better than you planned. This is not passivity. You still work and still make plans, only you keep them open, willing for God to edit them. Take whatever you have been gripping as non-negotiable and open your hand around it, and tell God you would rather have His version than your own.
For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall both live, and do this or that.
James 4:15 · ASVJames says people should plan with the qualifier if the Lord wills. The phrase reflects honesty about God's governance over the future rather than weak planning.
There are many devices in a man's heart; but the counsel of Jehovah, that shall stand.
Proverbs 19:21 · ASVThe proverb grants that a person has many plans, then says the counsel of Jehovah is what stands. When human plans and God's purpose differ, His is the one that prevails.
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith Jehovah, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope in your latter end.
Jeremiah 29:11 · ASVGod tells the exiles He has thoughts of peace toward them, plans for a future and a hope. Those plans are described as good, even in the middle of their captivity.
Commit thy way unto Jehovah; trust also in him, and he will bring it to pass.
Psalm 37:5 · ASVDavid calls for committing one's way to Jehovah and trusting Him to act. The verse pairs entrusting the matter to God with confidence that He will bring it to pass.
