Chosen before the world began
The deepest part of who you are did not begin when you believed. Before the world was made, God chose you in Christ and marked you out as His own. Let that land on a day set apart for Him. Your belonging reaches back further than creation and rests entirely on God's decision. Nothing you have done added to it and nothing ahead of you can take it away. Today, settle into being someone God set His love on before time began, and carry that certainty into the week ahead.
Even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, having foreordained us unto adoption as sons through Jesus Christ unto himself.
Ephesians 1:4-5 · ASVPaul says God chose His people in Christ before the foundation of the world and predestined them for adoption. Their place in His family is presented as decided before creation itself.
The Spirit himself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are children of God.
Romans 8:16 · ASVPaul says the Spirit bears witness with the believer's spirit that they are God's children. The assurance is described as confirmed by God's own Spirit.
For ye died, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
Colossians 3:3 · ASVPaul says the believer has died and their life is now hidden with Christ in God. The image places their true life safely within Christ's own.
In peace will I both lay me down and sleep; for thou, Jehovah, alone makest me dwell in safety.
Psalm 4:8 · ASVDavid lies down and sleeps in peace because God alone makes him secure. The verse links rest to confidence that safety is God's doing.
