You are God's child
You are not only forgiven, you were brought into the family. God did not save you and then keep you at a careful distance. He adopted you as His own child, with the right to call Him Father and a full share in what is His. A lot of believers still relate to God as if their place could be revoked, hoping to stay in good standing. It cannot be revoked. You have a child's standing and a child's inheritance, given to you and not earned. Come to Him today as someone who belongs to Him, and let that change how you pray.
But as many as received him, to them gave he the right to become children of God, even to them that believe on his name.
John 1:12 · ASVJohn says those who receive Christ and believe on His name are given the right to become children of God. The wording frames it as a granted status rather than a feeling.
For ye received not the spirit of bondage again unto fear; but ye received the spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
Romans 8:15 · ASVPaul contrasts a spirit of slavery and fear with the Spirit of adoption, who prompts the cry Abba, Father. The term is the intimate address of a child within a family.
So that thou art no longer a bondservant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.
Galatians 4:7 · ASVPaul names the change in status: no longer a bondservant but a son, and therefore an heir. The progression describes a move from servant to permanent family member who inherits.
Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called children of God: and such we are.
1 John 3:1 · ASVJohn marvels at the love that lets believers be called children of God, and adds that this is exactly what they are. He presents it as a present reality, not exaggerated language.
