Verse Meaning

Romans 8:38-39 Meaning

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:38-39 (ASV)

Paul stacks up a long list of everything that might look strong enough to cut you off from God, and then tells you not one item on it can. Not death, not the future closing in, not any power anywhere. The love of God in Christ holds firm through all of it.

This is the peak of Romans 8, a chapter that walks through suffering and hope and the security a believer has. Paul names hardship after hardship and then sets it all down here, on a love nothing has the strength to break.

So when you feel far from God, the verse speaks straight to that fear. Your feelings will shift, your life can come apart at the seams, and the love still holds, because the holding rests on Him.
