And be not fashioned according to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Romans 12:2 (ASV)
Paul lays two paths side by side: getting pressed into the shape of the world around you, or getting changed from the inside as your mind is made new. The change he is after starts in how you think, and it works outward until you can tell what God wants.
This comes right after eleven chapters on everything God has done, and now Paul turns to what that does to a life. The first thing he reaches for is the mind. The kind of change he means rises up out of a mind made new, instead of being clamped onto your behavior from outside.
So if you are after a different life, the verse points you to where it begins, which is whatever you are letting shape the way you think. Hand your mind over to be renewed, and the rest of you starts to move with it.
