But seek ye first his kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Matthew 6:33 (ASV)
Jesus is setting the order. Put God and His righteousness first, and the rest of what you need gets added in. Seeking God is no way of earning a pile of stuff out of Him. It is your whole life turning to point at Him, and finding along the way that your needs are being met.
He says it right after telling people to quit worrying about what they will eat and wear. The cure for that worry sits here: go after God first, and leave the rest of it in His hands.
A lot of worry comes from chasing the wrong thing out in front of everything else. Jesus puts God back in that first spot and tells you to let Him carry what you were anxious about. Seek Him, and the provision tends to come along behind.
