Matthew 11:28 Meaning

Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Matthew 11:28 (ASV)

Jesus opens the invitation wide to anyone worn out and weighed down. The one thing it asks of you is that you are tired and carrying too much, and on the other end of it He promises rest.

He says this to ordinary people who were buckling under religious demands stacked on top of the plain weight of daily life. Into all that load, He holds out Himself, and what He brings is relief instead of one more thing to haul around.

So if you are exhausted, this verse is for you exactly as you are right now, before you have fixed a thing. He says come, and what He has waiting on the other side of that is rest.
