Be strong and of good courage; be not affrighted, neither be thou dismayed: for Jehovah thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
Joshua 1:9 (ASV)
God tells Joshua to be strong and brave, then hands him the reason in the same breath: God Himself will go with him wherever he goes. The courage God asks for rests entirely on that, on knowing who is coming along.
Joshua was taking over from Moses and walking into a job big enough to flatten anyone. God stays honest about the size of it. He ties Joshua's courage to the one thing that holds steady no matter what comes, which is His own presence.
Courage like this can hold even while the fear is still there, because it moves on the strength of God going with you. Whatever you are walking into, that promise is yours too, and you walk in with Him beside you.
