Isaiah 40:31 Meaning

But they that wait for Jehovah shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary.

Isaiah 40:31 (ASV)

Those who wait for God get their strength renewed, drawn up like eagles climbing on the air, like runners who keep going and never wear out. The word holding it together is "wait." The strength comes from leaning on God and letting Him supply it, which is the opposite of squeezing more out of yourself.

Isaiah said this to a worn-down people who had started to feel like God had stopped looking their way. He meets their exhaustion by turning them back toward God, who is where fresh strength comes from.

So when you are running on fumes, the verse turns you toward God to have what is gone refilled. The waiting He asks for is the place your strength comes back to you.
