"His Mercies Are New Every Morning": What It Means

It is of Jehovah's lovingkindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness.

Lamentations is a book mourning a destroyed city. Into the middle of that grief, the writer stops to say God's mercy has not run out, and that it arrives fresh each day.

The picture is like the manna in the wilderness, which could not be stored overnight. God gave enough for the day and then gave again the next morning, and His mercy comes the same way, so you are never asked to run today on what you had yesterday.

Whatever the day before brought, the mercy waiting for you this morning is fresh and full, made new for the day in front of you. That is why a morning can start with hope instead of the weight of the one before it.
