When someone you love is struggling, praying for them can feel like the least you can do, but Scripture treats it as some of the most real help you can offer.
Name them and their need plainly. You do not need flowery language. "God, be with her today, and give her strength" is a real prayer.
Pray Scripture over them. Take a verse and pray it for the person. For someone anxious, pray Philippians 4:6-7 over them by name.
Ask for what only God can do. Pray for His peace and His presence with them, and for the healing and wisdom the situation needs, alongside any change in circumstances.
Keep praying. The parable of the persistent widow in Luke 18 shows that coming back to God again and again is faith that refuses to give up, and He welcomes it.
Tell them you are praying. It matters to people to know they are being carried.
Confess therefore your sins one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The supplication of a righteous man availeth much in its working.
James 5:16 (ASV)
Praying for someone else is a way of loving them when you cannot fix things yourself. Start by naming them before God.
