How to Build a Daily Bible Habit That Lasts

Reading the Bible daily is one of those things almost everyone wants and few people stick with. The fix is usually a better setup, the kind that makes showing up easy enough that willpower stops being the question.

Make it small. Five minutes you keep beats 30 minutes you skip. One verse and one thought is enough to start.

Attach it to something you already do. Read right after you pour your coffee, or right before bed. Habits stick when they ride on existing ones.

Keep it in the same place. A set spot removes the friction of deciding where and when.

Let a missed day be a missed day. You will skip one here and there, and the habit holds fine as long as you pick it back up rather than deciding you have blown it.

Read with one question. "What does this say about God, and what does it ask of me?" That keeps it from becoming a box to check.

But his delight is in the law of Jehovah; And on his law doth he meditate day and night.

Psalm 1:2 (ASV)
